Data Standards & Technology Trends Committee
Data Standards & Technology Trends Committee Charge: This committee is responsible for developing and maintaining a data standards reference resource for fish and wildlife information managers and information system developers. The committee will also review trends in information technology as it relates to scientific data management and report its findings to the Organization.
2010 Goals and Objectives:
- Develop and maintain a Web-based reference resource of data standards for fish and wildlife information managers and information system developers. This resource should be referenced from the OFWIM public Web site.
- Convene committee meetings at least quarterly via teleconference and/or Web conference to conduct committee business.
- Prepare brief descriptions, case studies, and best practices related to the use of popular or emerging technologies for managing, exploring, or visualizing fisheries and wildlife data and information; publish these summaries in the OFWIM newsletter. The goal is to publish at least three (3) articles each year.
- Alone or in collaboration with other OFWIM Committees, identify useful and innovative tools and technologies that facilitate data management, use, and integration, and solicit Web-based presentations on these tools and technologies to OFWIM members.
- Prepare an annual written report of committee activities and achievements for submission to the OFWIM Executive Committee in advance of the annual Business Meeting. The report will be disseminated to the membership as an appendix to the official Business Meeting Minutes.
- Present an oral summary of the committee activities and achievements to the membership during the annual Business Meeting.
- Ensure participation of the Chair or Vice-Chair in the quarterly OFWIM Committee Chairs Meetings, conducted by the OFWIM Past-President.
